The longest day of the ride, Day 2 takes us from Santa Cruz into California’s Central Valley “salad bowl,” where lots of the country’s vegetables are grown. A cold morning always turns into a hot afternoon with powerful tailwinds that push us into King City. We make unofficial stops at Pezzini Farms for fried artichokes and at the Otter Pop Stop for refreshing popsicles.
Day 2, here we go!
A ride celebrity, Chicken Lady, built this ‘nest’ near bike parking.
Ride Director, Cailin, geared up for Safety Day! Cailin joined ALC as a cyclist rep who covered our San Diego area.
Leaving Santa Cruz
Heading into the Central Valley agricultural fields. Lots of strawberries, cauliflower, and of course, artichokes!
Grateful for the people who work these fields to provide us with fresh produce.
“Unofficial” rest stop at Pazzini Farms for fried artichokes.
The “‘Choke Coach”
Another “unofficial” rest stop of the ride is the Otter Pop Stop where dancing bears pass out cooling otter pop popsicles to weary cyclists.
Bridge under-which some cyclists go skinny dipping. This year, the Sheriff was called to break up the fun.
